Great place to stop on a road trip. Just give it a shot, it's supposed to look like that! One of the best places we stopped on our trip across country.
My buddy and I were motorcycling west along I-90 when the rain started at about 6pm. Good time to stop. Asked about food and we were directed here. I just don't understand how this place came to be! It's in the middle of nowhere! But, damn, the food is good. Huge portions. Thankfully there was huge black dog in the rear yard who helped us finish our burgs. He was beautiful. So......our next ride west we made a point of stopping in again. Should have checked first as it was closed Monday! Almost stayed over just to go but time wouldn't allow. Oh well, next time.
Traveling through SD after a stop at Mt Rushmore, going from WA to Ohio, we Googled a place to eat. By reviews we found Back 40 in Kimball, SD. There was myself, husband ,3 teenage daughters and my daughter's boyfriend. We ordered turkey pastrami sandwiches, chicken alfredo, BLT, and Bully Burger. The beef is raised by the owners. Everything was fresh, amazingly delicious and the portions are huge. We all loved the place which is creatively designed with an eclectic, rustic style of antiques, made into tables, decor and structures. We happened to be there on an evening that was perfect to eat outside and listened to some GREAT live music. The atmosphere is relaxed and the owner, Keke, is so friendly she made us feel like we've known her for years. We hated to get back out on the road. Definitely will visit again when in SD.

Fantastic hole in the wall restaurant that is a must see to believe. I pulled in here alone this evening and was a little hesitant. Very dark and not really marked very well but as soon as you open the door you'll feel the welcoming atmosphere. I'm sure happy I tried something out of my comfort zone!!! A little higher priced but you absolutely get what you pay for. Looks like most meals could be shared. Cool and very unique decor with great service and food
Very Very good food and drinks Service is Great. Just a great place to hang out with family and friends.
Looks a bit abandoned at first... BUT AMAZINGLY AWESOME! Great, and I mean great food! Fun decore. Bathroom is amusing as well.
